Nammo Introduces New 30 mm Family of Ammunition

The Norwegian Army Material Command Acquires Ammunition to Their New Infantry Fighting Vehicle CV9030

OSLO, Norway, March 6, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- The new generation of infantry fighting vehicles CV9030 that have been acquired by the Norwegian Defence Forces (NDF) are armed with a 30 mm Bushmaster cannon, using 30 x 173 mm caliber ammunition.

Defence Forces in many other countries have also chosen the same vehicle or similar weapon platform equipped with 30 mm cannon. Thus 30 x 173 mm ammunition is becoming a main caliber in modern armed forces.

Nammo, in co-operation with the authority from NDF by the Norwegian Army Material Command (NAMC), has developed and qualified a state-of- the-art "family" of ammunition for the new infantry fighting vehicle. The NDF has earlier ordered training ammunition, and Nammo has now received the first contract on war ammunition.

In addition to the training ammunition, the 30 mm family of ammunition comprises Multipurpose (MP-T/SD) and Arrow (APFSDS-T) ammunition.

Besides Norway, the family of ammunition is qualified or under qualification in several countries. New innovative technology has resulted in projectiles in the medium caliber area with high-performance meeting the requirements of modern armies.

The co-operation between Nammo and NDF during development and qualification has contributed to a successful project.

A major contribution was made by Nammo to the US AAAV team during the Foreign Comparative Testing, FCT, carried out by US Navy/ USMC - AAAV Firepower, and the ammunition is fully qualified for this platform.

The family of ammunition is of current interest in several export markets, included the United States, and is an important future growth area for Nammo.
