eBidenergy, Inc. Becomes First in New York State to Achieve Metered Data Service Provider Certification

MDSP Certification Opens Door for eBidenergy to Work More Closely With Utility Companies and Load Serving Entities

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 18, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- eBidenergy, Inc. announced today that it completed its Meter Data Service Provider (MDSP) certification, becoming the first company in New York State to achieve this designation.

The Public Service Commission of New York recently began allowing electricity customers to directly contract with Meter Service Providers (MSP) and MDSPs as an alternative to the traditional utility. The MDSP certification allows eBidenergy to provide services once exclusively available through utility companies, such as data collection, billing, and price responsive load management.

As a certified MDSP, the interval energy data collected through eBidenergy's PowerTrak(tm) platform will be accepted by the New York State Independent System Operator (NYISO), load serving entities, curtailment service providers, transmission owners, and end users. In addition, the certification allows the company to participate in NYSIO price responsive load management programs. These programs help commercial and industrial end users reduce their peak energy usage during times of high-energy demand and earn income while doing so.

"MDSP status strengthens our position in the New York State deregulated energy market, and will allow us to interact more closely with utilities as the market matures," said Terry Sick, president and CEO of eBidenergy. "Buyers and end users can be assured that the data we are collecting will be accepted by the NYSIO, load serving entities, and utilities. On the other hand, suppliers can be assured that the data being presented in an online procurement environment is revenue-grade data."

The company will be providing MDSP services across New York State utility service territories, including: Rochester Gas and Electric, Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, New York State Electric and Gas, Consolidated Edison, Orange and Rockland, Central Hudson, Keyspan Energy, Corning Natural Gas, and National Fuel Gas.

In order to achieve MDSP certification, eBidenergy had to meet specific requirements. These include proof of eligibility to do business in New York State, attestation of the company's commitment to provide on-going employee training, hardware and software specifications, a data storage and disaster recovery plan, security system specifications, and a Statement of Written Notice.

"This certification further demonstrates our commitment to deliver enhanced Web-based products and services to the deregulated energy marketplace," added Sick.
