STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 21, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Swedish IT and telecom company Sectra has secured an order from the Norwegian Armed Forces for series delivery of the eavesdrop-secure Tiger(r) GSM telephone. The order concerns the NATO version of Tiger(r) and comprises more than 1,000 telephones with accessories. The value of the order amounts to approximately SEK 40 million. Deliveries will begin within a month and final delivery is scheduled for December 2002.
The NATO version of the Sectra Tiger(r) has been developed in collaboration with the Norwegian Armed Forces, which ordered the development of Tiger(r) in 1999. The intention at that time was to develop a Norwegian national model. In order to pave the way for a broader market, a new agreement was signed in March 2001 that meant further development of the Norwegian national model into an international NATO version.
"It is naturally extremely pleasing that the development project conducted in collaboration with the Norwegian Armed Forces now is entering a serial phase," said Per Unell, President of Sectra Communications AB.
"Our collaboration with Sectra is a fruitful one," said Ingeborg Thomasrud, project manager at the Logistics Department of the Norwegian Armed Forces. "Sectra Tiger covers many areas of use for secure mobile communications, both for speech and for data transfer. By developing a NATO version, we are able to cover both the Norwegian and wider NATO markets with a single product."

The first Tiger telephone was developed in cooperation with experts within Sweden's Armed Forces. There is also an international civilian version directed toward companies and authorities outside the defense sector. The Sectra Tiger(r) system guarantees secure communications in public GSM networks all the way from transmitter to receiver, for voice as well as data transmissions. The telephone features integrated encryption and GSM technology, making it the most secure mobile encryption telephone on the market.
