STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 26, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Nova Medical, part of Capio's Diagnostics business area, has signed a new agreement with Sormland County Council for the provision of laboratory services. The three-year agreement, with an option for extension by an additional four years, is worth approximately SEK 100 M per year to Capio in revenues.
The agreement is an extension of the original agreement between the parties, but it is also a partnership for the supply and development of laboratory medicine services. This is a unique opportunity to co-operate closely in the development of a strong model for near-patient testing (NPT) operations. The agreement covers laboratory medicine services in clinical chemistry, clinical microbiology and clinical pathology/cytology.
"We are pleased to have been entrusted with the continued supply of laboratory medicine services in the Sormland region and, as a partner, to have the opportunity to jointly develop an analysis concept within the NPT area," said Dan Olsson, manager of Capio Diagnostics Sweden.
Near Patient Testing, the demand for which is expected to grow strongly in the next few years, means that an ever-increasing number of analyses are performed directly in the healthcare centre and that the patient can obtain the results during the visit.
Nova Medical is one of the leading laboratory medicine companies in Europe, with operations in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Poland. Nova Medical operates the laboratories at several hospitals and primary care centres and has well-established units for clinical pharmaceutical tests. Today, the company has some 700 employees, primarily biomedical analysts, and about 40 consulting physicians. Nova Medical has annual revenues of slightly more than SEK 500 M and is part of Capio's Diagnostics business area.
