Nokia and Jixi Telecommunications Bureau, under the Heilongjiang Telecommunications Authority, have signed a contract for the supply of the Nokia DSL access network in Heilongjiang province - bringing high-speed Internet access to Jixi TB's subscribers. Heilongjiang TA is a subdivision of China Telecom.
Nokia will supply Nokia D50e Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAM) and Network Management Systems as part of its end-to-end Nokia Broadband IP Access solution.
The D50e has recently been certified to also handle IP traffic, allowing operators extending into the broadband business to flexibly choose whether to use ATM or IP interfaces, as suits their circumstances.
"Broadband networks provide fast Internet access solutions and promise people a new level of Internet experience and a number of exciting new services," said Andrew Page, Director for North Asia, Nokia Broadband Systems. "We are proud to have the opportunity to work with Heilongjiang TA and its subdivision, Jixi TB. Broadband services are a key step in the development of the information society, and this agreement underlines Nokia's strength as a leading supplier in efficient broadband solutions."
DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) technology enables broadband access over copper lines. The Nokia D50e is a proven flexible, two-stage ATM-transmission-based DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) platform, which enables operators to provide customers with high-speed DSL services ranging up to 8 Mbps through ADSL and symmetrical services through SHDSL. With the Nokia D50e platform, operators can make full use of existing network resources and coverage and provide selectable bandwidth to satisfy the increasing demand for high-speed Internet access.
