GOTHENBURG, Sweden, June 24, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Capio today announced that it has allocated several million kronor in grants for medical research.
In an initial phase, Capio, one of Europe's leading healthcare companies, has allocated SEK 10 M to medical research. The first SEK 1 M is currently being paid out to successful grant applicants.
The first application period for research grants from the Capio Research Foundation attracted 231 applications from Scandinavia and the U.K. The Board of the Capio Research Foundation has decided to allocate grants totalling slightly more than SEK 1 M. The quality of the applications received has been very high. The applications cover a broad range of research subjects and have been submitted by researchers at most of Sweden's universities and many other healthcare establishments. The combined funds covered by the applications received during the period far exceeded the amount that could be allocated. The grants have been allocated primarily to near-patient clinical and multidisciplinary research, including notable projects in such areas as epilepsy, perianal injuries after childbirth, elderly care and paediatric care.
The next closing date for applications to reach the Capio Research Foundation is October 1, 2002.
