KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., June 27, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Neoware Systems (Nasdaq:NWRE), the leading supplier of award-winning software, services, and solutions for the Appliance Computing market, today announced that it has partnered with ateb, Inc. to provide 3,000 thin client appliances to the retail market.
ateb is a versatile software solutions company that helps businesses enhance their operational efficiencies to boost customer service. ateb has developed a customized version of Neoware's Eon appliance for use within retail in-store pharmacies to support queuing, scheduling, and retrying the hundreds of faxes that are sent and received per day. ateb's customers can also use the Eon as a desktop device capable of running the fax application and performing specific fax related functions. Requirements included having a networked fax with direct IP hookup; receiving and storing at least 500 incoming or outgoing faxes; and converting, validating, and sending postscript files via print queues.
Based on these requirements, ateb selected Neoware's Eon thin client appliance to develop its fax appliance product. Retailers, with a large number of locations, are very cognizant of maintenance and administration costs, which drove ateb's decision to use thin clients. Thin client appliances, which can be centrally managed using Neoware's remote management software, drive down the cost and time associated with system administration and lower the total cost of ownership when compared to PC-based solutions. Furthermore, Neoware thin client appliances are solid-state devices with no fans, hard drives, or other moving parts that require maintenance, further lowering total ownership costs. Neoware's products, in addition to saving customers time and money, can be customized to meet the most stringent customer requirements.
Using Neoware's embedded software, ateb has customized the Eons with Brooktrout Technology's TruFax high performance intelligent fax boards and the fax application from ateb. By the end of July 2002, ateb will have deployed 3,000 Eon thin client appliances in a nationwide installation at a major discount retailer.
"Neoware's growth, financial strength, and leadership position in the thin client appliance market, as well as its impressive retail customer list, were important factors that our customers valued when we suggested they standardize on Neoware's Eon thin client appliances," stated Debbi Hucaby, ateb's Director of Sales. "Additionally, the flexibility of Neoware's products and Neoware's responsiveness to our needs are enabling us to exceed customer expectations."
"We are pleased that ateb has selected Neoware as a partner to deliver this exciting thin client fax appliance product," stated Michael Kantrowitz, Neoware's president and CEO. "Neoware's software makes the Eon platform a highly customizable product that can be specifically tailored to individual customer requirements, while offering low total ownership costs through central management. Neoware's software expertise and our broad product line have fueled the Company's growth, enabling us to offer our customers the widest range of Appliance Computing solutions to fit their needs."
