ASM Furthers Innovation of Multiple Deposition-Related Techniques

BILTHOVEN, The Netherlands, July 15, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- ASM International (Nasdaq:ASMI) and (Euronext Amsterdam:ASM) affirms its strong position in both the wafer processing and assembly markets with plans to announce advancements in multiple solutions to product and process challenges including, Selective Epitaxial Growth (SEG) of Si and SiGe films, Atomic Layer CVD (tm) (ALCVD(tm)), Integrated Metrology, High-k and Low-k, and 3rd Generation Interconnect(tm) at SEMICON West in San Francisco, Calif.

ASM's progress in these breakthrough technologies enhances the company's offering of a full line of wafer-fabrication applications for building transistors and creating interconnections for everything from the 90 nm technology node through the next two generations, to the 45 nm node. ASM's significant advancements in the interconnect area / back-end-of-line, as well as new developments in superior deposition techniques will drive next generation tools well into the future.

Integration is key to the success of wafer processing and assembly as the boundaries between front-end-of-line and back-end-of-line solutions continue to fade. In the unique position to lead this integration, ASM is the only company that offers wafer-fab and assembly products.

"Our processes in production and in development are among the most exciting advancements we have made since we introduced ALCVD to the semiconductor industry," noted Daniel Queyssac, president and COO of ASM Front-End Operations.

The company will announce the details of its technology advancements, along with other news, at a press conference set for July 22, 2002 at SEMICON West in San Francisco's Moscone Center.
