PARIS, July 26, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Saint-Gobain Pam, the flagship company of Saint-Gobain's Pipe Division, has signed a contract to supply Japan's Marubeni Corporation with equipment to build a drinking-water pipeline for the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authorities. The pipeline will link the Shuweihat desalination plant with Abu Dhabi.

This contract, worth approximately $300 million, represents a total of about 410,000 metric tons of pipes. It is the largest ductile-iron pipe contract ever signed by any company in the world.

The 460 kms of pipes will include both standard and flanged pipes, as well as high-technology polyurethane-coated PUX pipes. They will be delivered in installments over the course of 20 months.

This contract confirms Saint-Gobain's position as world leader in the field of equipment for drinking-water networks, an area with vast development potential for the coming years.

Saint-Gobain's Pipe Division employs 8,000 people worldwide and had 2001 sales of Euro 1,400 million.
