PHILADELPHIA, Pa., July 29, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- MEDIA ADVISORY --
The sounds of local and national smooth jazz artists will fill the air during WJJZ's Smooth Jazz Summer Nights on Festival Pier at Penn's Landing. Every Friday night in August, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m., smooth jazz fans can look forward to the WJJZ Smooth Jazz Summer Nights. This year, the series will take place at Festival Pier on Penn's Landing located on Columbus Boulevard and Spring Garden Street. This series is free to the public by the generous support of Independence Blue Cross.
Smooth Summer Nights will be emceed by WJJZ 106.1 radio hosts Teri Webb, Michael Tozzi and Bill Simpson.
-- August 2nd will kick off the WJJZ Smooth Summer Nights Series
with The Barbara Walker Story and smooth jazz pioneers, and
Philadelphia locals, Pieces of a Dream.
-- August 10th will feature Philadelphia local and Temple
University graduate Andrew Neu, performing popular contemporary
jazz selections, as well as exciting original music. Another
Philadelphia local, bassist Gerald Veasley will perform. He
describes his music as "urban progressive" and is considered on
of contemporary jazz's most innovative talents.
-- August 17th brings Steve Cole and Arpeggio Jazz as the opening
act. Cole is a songwriter and saxophonist with several radio
hits. Cole's sophomore album, Between Us, is a follow-up to his
very successful debut album Stay Awhile.
-- August 24th features Doc Gibbs & Picante, from the Emeril Live
show featured on the Food Network. This concert also features
Jeff Kashiwa. Performing hits like Hyde Park from his solo album
Another Door Opens; Kashiwa is one of the most popular smooth
jazz performers over the last decade.
-- August 30th closes out the series with regional favorites Fortune
Vinson Cruz and headliner Spyro Gyra. Spyro Gyra is celebrating
more than 25 years of performing and recording contemporary jazz.
They will perform hits from their most recent album, In Modern
Times.
WJJZ 106.1 radio staff will be on site every Friday evening to give away promotional items and sell WJJZ signature merchandise. Smooth jazz lovers will also be able to register for the WJJZ "Vacation a Day to Hawaii" contest. Tickets are not required and seating is available on a first come, first served basis.
