Another first for KBC Bank in the People's Republic of China: 'LOCAL CURRENCY LICENCE'

KBC Bank NV is the first Belgian bank in China to be awarded a local currency (Renminbi) licence by the People's Bank of China (PBOC). As a consequence, KBC is now able to offer its corporate customers a comprehensive range of Renminbi business services and has already concluded its first credit transaction in the local currency with the Chinese subsidiary of the Belgian international company, UCB.

KBC was also the first Belgian bank to have an operational establishment in China, when its Shanghai branch opened its doors for business on 9 June 1997. It subsequently opened a second branch in the city of Shenzhen, Guandong Province, in January 1999 and a third branch in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, in November 2001.
