Fuzhou Telecom and Nokia have signed an agreement for the supply of broadband DSL equipment including the Nokia D500 to enable Fuzhou to further expand its broadband DSL network. Fuzhou is the capital city of Fujian province on the southeastern coast of China. Home to one of the largest electronics-manufacturing centers in China, Fujian’s high-tech industries have fueled new economic growth in the province's economy.
Nokia will supply the Nokia D500 and Nokia D50 access nodes, both with IP Ethernet interfaces, allowing Fuzhou to benefit from the intrinsic cost efficiencies of IP-based networking. The Nokia D500 will be used to replace existing network equipment in the more populous downtown areas of Fuzhou, providing both ADSL and SHDSL based services. Nokia will also deliver related support services.
“We are particularly pleased to be supplying the Nokia D500 new-generation access platform as it allows Fuzhou Telecom to begin the transition from an ATM-based broadband service network to an IP-based network,” says Ari Lehtoranta, Vice President, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks. “With IP interfaces in both the Nokia D500 and Nokia D50, and both products having been certified by the Ministry of Information Industry for use in China’s national network, we look forward to rolling out cost-efficient new generation solutions with Fuzhou Telecom and in other provinces in China.”
“We chose Nokia solutions because of their density and the fact that they offer IP Ethernet interfaces on both the D500 and D50 products,” says Mr. Duan Jianxiang, Deputy General Manager of Fujian Telecommunications Administration. “We have had a close relationship with Nokia over a number of years and appreciate their technological innovation and their ability to deliver on their promises.”
The Nokia D500 Multiservice Access Platform supports ADSL, SHDSL and, as announced today, VDSL based on a standard DMT chipset. The high-density, high-capacity D500 provides for a wide range of services and is designed to provide operators with the ability to evolve their networks from ATM to IP in a seamless manner, as IP becomes the prevalent protocol in the access network.
