Nokia and Orca Interactive team up to deliver broadband iTV services for fixed network operators

Nokia, a leading supplier of broadband access and intelligent edge solutions, and Orca Interactive Ltd, a provider of interactive television (iTV) applications that allow service delivery to multiple consumer devices, have signed a cooperative marketing agreement to enable the delivery of high-bandwidth video and TV type of services over DSL-based networks.  The two companies have also completed integration of their respective product sets.

Delivery of the integrated solution to a fixed network operator in Taiwan is currently underway and will be used for its media on demand (MoD) service to be launched this year.

The agreement covers cooperative marketing of each other’s products in broadband customer cases, as well as integration of Orca software with Nokia access and edge products, ensuring the compatibility and interoperability of Orca software applications and Nokia broadband products. The agreement will also ensure that Orca’s multi-device and multi-network delivery modes, in this case over ADSL and VDSL, are supported by the broadband network equipment.

“Over the last few months we have been working very closely with Orca to create systems that can deliver full streamed video and TV-type content simply and at a reasonable cost,” says Mr. Ari Lehtoranta, Vice President, Broadband Systems, Nokia Networks.  “The Orca software has already been successfully integrated into the Nokia broadband products. This is a step forward toward our goal to create a reliable, cost-efficient, end-to-end system for delivering high-capacity video services and moving ahead to convergent services.”

“We are extremely excited to be working with Nokia on the solutions for broadband video content delivery over fixed broadband networks,” says Mr. Haggei Barel, CEO, Orca Interactive Ltd.  “Nokia’s network solutions expertise combined with Orca’s software innovations will enable operators to realize the full potential of broadband networks with a reliable, robust video delivery system. Nokia and Orca Interactive have both gained valuable insight into the practical application of video delivery during their involvement our media on demand (MoD) project in Taiwan.”
