BROOKLYN, N.Y., January 21, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- When Faith Powers nearly dies giving birth to Jenna, the doctor informs her that she can bear no more children, thereby shattering her dreams of a large family. "Betrayal" by Terri Smith (now available through 1stBooks Library) tells her story.
Severely depressed, she would eventually deny her only daughter's existence. Brought up by her loving father and a nanny in Key Largo, Florida, Jenna yearned for the excitement of the big city and left home to pursue her dreams.
Arriving in New York, she quickly found love, a career and friendship. When Millicent Barnes arrived and they took an apartment together, however, Jenna's life began to fall apart. After several steady relationships soured for no apparent reason, Jenna realized that Millicent had come to New York for only one reason -- to destroy any happiness Jenna found.
What Millicent didn't realize was that by concentrating on destroying Jenna's life, she was slowly destroying her own. Her webs of deceit and blind determination led her down a path that was to turn ugly and dangerous.
Only through several tragic events that would shake her life forever would Jenna be able to pick up the pieces of her shattered existence and find happiness once and for all.
Terri Smith, a Florida native, has lived in New York since 1977. This is her first novel. A second work is currently in progress -- a historical fiction piece that takes place in Ireland and New York, beginning in the early 1900s.
She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband, James.
