One World Under God -- New Novel Contemplates Love in a War Zone

LITITZ, Pa., February 12, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- To dream the impossible dream. Can love survive cultural differences, even as lovers struggle to survive in a war zone? Kari and Nick must flee for their lives and discover a new love as they struggle to come to terms with the turmoil that surrounds them. Author Nancy O'Hara explores the meaning of love and survival in her breathtaking new novel, One World Under God (now available through 1stBooks Library).

NATO's intervention in Kosovo in 1999 was big news. The television screens and front pages of newspapers around the world were filled with thousands of fleeing refugees. Yet another Holy War, and as usual, those who suffer most have no control over the events that tragically change their lives. One World Under God is a fictional story involving an American Christian and a beautiful Muslim artist. They face danger and hardship escaping from Kosovo over the awesome Dinartic Alps to Montenegro. During those 12 days they realize the present difficulties they face are minor compared to those their growing love for each other will soon encounter.

Kari grieves for her country and her people as Kosovo is torn apart by war. Nick is determined not to lose Kari and is willing to support her muslim faith. Eventually her declaration of love for him transcends the teachings of her beloved grandmother. Each remain true to their faith, demonstrating in a story what may be the answer to the hate that has dominated history for centuries.

This novel began life as a short story, a golden thread against the darkness of war. Then it took on a life of its own. The author is a committed Christian, fully aware that she is going beyond her comfort zone in writing about a country and a faith she has experienced through careful research and a conviction that respect for all God's children is the key to peace. She believes that her eight teenage grandchildren and their generation must be the ones to learn to live peacefully on this planet.

An impossible dream? The impossible dream may be the only dream we have.
