City of Philadelphia IT Encounter; Networking, learning event fostered partnerships between IT companies of all sizes

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 13, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Companies owned by minorities, women and persons with disabilities have much to gain by registering with the City of Philadelphia's Minority Business Enterprise Council (MBEC). The IT Encounter is one benefit for qualifying IT companies, as this event encouraged connections with potential business partners.

The IT Encounter, held Thursday, February 13 and presented by the Mayor's Office of Information Services and MBEC, also highlighted Mayor Street's commitment to helping companies of all sizes reach greater success, and in turn help the region's economy.

Small companies may not be staffed to fulfill large city IT contracts, but strong partnerships with large IT firms can position MBEC-registered companies to take part in these business opportunities. Mayor Street and approximately 100 representatives from MBEC-registered IT firms and major IT firms that work in the Philadelphia region attended the IT Encounter.

This unique event also gave companies an opportunity to learn from the experience of others. Presentations from city leaders and IT companies that currently provide work to the city offered practical advice for all guests.

The Mayor's Office of Information Services is the city's central IT agency, responsible for maintaining and improving the City of Philadelphia's computer systems and hardware. MOIS, led by chief information officer Dianah Neff, is committed to giving qualified companies of all sizes an opportunity to be successful in doing business with the City of Philadelphia.

The Minority Business Enterprise Council serves companies owned by minorities, women and persons with disabilities by helping them navigate city government and better positioning them to earn city contracts. Eligible companies that register with the council have access to MBEC's services, support and events like these. For more information, please call (215) 686-6232.
