A Legacy To Die For -- New author presents riveting contemporary fiction novel

SAN DIEGO, April 2, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- With a devoted wife, a son who idolizes him and a thriving practice, attorney Russell White seems to have it all. But that's not enough for the main character in Tim Stutler's newly released novel, Dead Hand Control (now available through 1stBooks Library). White craves fame, influence and passion. Most of all, he wants to build a legacy he can personally control, even in death.

The story begins at a California law school, where White must submit to an interrogation by a sadistic law firm recruiter. The product of a working class family, White longs to join the prestigious firm. He has the talent and drive to succeed in the elite bar. But he is also a deeply flawed man. After landing a position with the firm, White quickly succumbs to temptations that will ultimately destroy him.

The young attorney's career flourishes, even as his personal life starts to unravel. He makes rash decisions that trap him and his family on an enthralling roller coaster ride through a sordid world White never imagined existed. He soon finds himself locked in a life and death struggle with kidnappers, murderers and his own private demons.

As the world White created spirals out of his control, he becomes obsessed with protecting his wife and disabled son. He never realizes until too late that his own actions have created the greatest threat to the family. But by then, his mistakes have imperiled his son's life. Only a miracle will save the boy.

Dead Hand Control is a masterful tale of ambition, control and mortality, topics of intense interest in modern society. Suspenseful, imaginative and at times hilarious, Stutler's book will grip readers from the first line through its surprising, provocative ending.

An Ohio native, Stutler serves as an assistant United States attorney in San Diego. In his 16 years of practice, he has also been an administrative law judge, municipal court judge pro tempore, partner in a civil law firm and major in the U.S. Army's JAG Corps. He served as a Navy bluejacket before obtaining a formal education from U.C. Berkeley's Boalt Hall, Harvard Law School, California State University, Fullerton and Southwestern College.

Dead Hand Control is Stutler's first published novel.
