HARRISBURG, Pa., April 14, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- The Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry today praised state Sen. Mary Jo White for taking the lead in the effort to protect Pennsylvania manufacturers from the threat of never-ending product liability suits.
White, R-Venango, is prime sponsor of legislation that would limit the amount of time that a suit may be brought against a product manufacturer to 15 years. Enactment of a "statute of repose" is a key part of the Chamber's ongoing work to restore fairness, common sense and personal responsibility to Pennsylvania's legal system.
"Long after a product's useful life has expired, manufacturers are still held accountable under the state's product liability law," said Jim Welty, Vice President of Corporate Affairs for the Pennsylvania Chamber. "This threat of liability for the life of a product punishes innovation and stifles new industry. We applaud Senator White for her leadership in addressing this issue. The Chamber looks forward to working with her and other members of the General Assembly to secure passage of this legislation."
