GOTEBORG, Sweden, Aug. 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- GEO Gesellschaft fur Energie und Oekologie mbH of Enge-Sande (Germany) has placed an order with SKF (Nasdaq:SKFR) for 100 SKF WindCon systems. These condition monitoring systems of wind turbines are to be installed and in operation by the end of 2004. The two parties to the contract have also signed an agreement on "co-operation in partnership" reaching beyond this present order.
The SKF WindCon system was chosen on the merits of its performance in operation after more than a year of tests by GEO on the condition monitoring systems and monitoring methods offered by various suppliers. GEO considers it an advantage that SKF WindCon is a system operating independently of the make or supplier of the wind turbine.
The SKF WindCon condition monitoring system will help GEO to get a complete picture of the condition of its wind turbines at any time. It will enable potential problems to be detected at an early stage and preventive maintenance to be scheduled before unplanned downtime causes considerable loss of production. By using SKF WindCon, GEO can improve the uptime of its wind turbines and optimize the scheduling and efficiency of maintenance operations.
This is the second large order this year of SKF WindCon systems. "This makes us the leading supplier of solutions for condition monitoring systems for wind turbines", says Gerhard Schneeweis, Central European Sales Director for the Service Division of the SKF Group.
