Bitfone Announces mProve PRISM for Firmware Lifecycle Management

PRISM Provides Carrier-grade Control for Mobile Phone Updates

LA JOLLA, Calif., Sept. 17, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Bitfone Corporation (www.bitfone.com), a leader in over-the-air (OTA) update technology for mobile phones, today announced the release of mProve PRISM(tm) (Package Repository and Intelligent State Manager) that allows wireless carriers to centrally manage the updating of firmware images on mobile phones within their networks.

As a component of Bitfone's end-to-end mProve(tm) 3.0 solution, PRISM provides carrier-grade storage and lifecycle management of firmware Update Packages, based on manufacturer, model and subscriber characteristics. An Update Package, which is a tiny fraction of the actual firmware image size, is used to transform an outdated or defective firmware image to a new, improved image. PRISM can be used directly with the mProve Delivery Server and Delivery Agent, or can be integrated with other device management systems, download servers or download clients.

"Customer support costs are a huge concern to carriers who have millions of subscribers using a wide variety of phone models with an even wider range of firmware images across each model," said Gene Wang, chairman and CEO, Bitfone Corporation. "PRISM provides a centralized management system that ensures mobile phones have the latest and greatest firmware images installed, which can significantly reduce support calls. PRISM offers both carriers and manufacturers a convenient and cost-effective way to manage firmware versions, which results in higher quality phones and happier customers."

Using PRISM, wireless operators and manufacturers can customize and control the status of each Update Package, such as new, testing, approved, released or inactive. Upon initiation from the carrier or subscriber, PRISM dynamically discovers a mobile phone's characteristics and automatically sends the correct Update Package to the phone. Additional features of PRISM include a Web-based console for secure access, detailed transaction logging for complete auditing, and standards-based programming interfaces for seamless integration with existing network infrastructure and third-party download servers.

Bitfone will demonstrate PRISM at the third annual DEMOmobile Conference from September 17-19 at the Hilton La Jolla Torrey Pines in La Jolla, California.
