ASM International Sues Applied Materials for Patent Infringement


BILTHOVEN, The Netherlands, Oct. 06, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- ASM International N.V. (Nasdaq:ASMI) (Euronext Amsterdam:ASM) and its subsidiary, ASM America, Inc., today announced that they have filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division, against Applied Materials, Inc. for patent infringement.

The complaint alleges infringement of six of ASM's U.S. patents and seeks injunctive relief from manufacturing, selling, or distributing any infringing products. The complaint also seeks actual and enhanced damages for Applied's willful infringement.
