Help from Dr. Selma -- Author offers explanation of Bible to include gay, lesbian, biaffectionate, transgendered community

DETROIT, Oct. 21, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life," John 3:16. This is one of the most well-known Bible passages of all time, and author Selma Massey stresses that there are no exceptions to this Scripture. In her new book, Dr. Selma! Help (now available through 1stBooks), she explains how lesbian, gay, "biaffectionate" and transgendered (LGBT) people are equally loved in God's eyes.

In this book, Massey shatters long held ideas that the Bible condemns people with alternative lifestyles. She offers clarity on Scripture that does not doom homosexuals. All people are equal heirs with Christ, she writes. If people give their life to Christ, they are able to stand without guilt in front of God, she adds. "(I use) this premise to explode pulpits around the country by telling Christian lesbians and gays that they have been set free from condemnation," she writes.

Massey uses question and answer style, testimonials, short stories and articles to offer the LGBT community information on issues such as religion, family, relationships, discrimination and abuse. Her insightful guidance and refreshing perspectives provide comfort and understanding and bring readers to the crossroads of Christianity and homosexuality.

Massey is an active member of the Michigan area LGBT faith community. She has hosted television and radio programs, including "Whosoever with Dr. Selma." Professionally, she has administered clinical treatments programs for mental health for more than 15 years.
