Driving G.O.D. Crazy -- New Novel Follows War Between Young Officers and Cranky Commander in Navy

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 24, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- Gabriel Obadiah Daniel, or G.O.D. as his men call him, rules his ship with an iron fist. His strict demeanor and no nonsense attitude cause nothing but frustration for his crew, until they decide to get him back. The new novel, God Wore an Orange Cap (now available through 1stBooks), by Karl Boesenhofer, describes how a grumpy commanding officer gets what is coming to him in this hilarious story of pranks and revenge.

God Wore an Orange Cap is told through Kaboe, a crew member who scribbles down all the occurrences. G.O. Daniel has had a long, distinguished career in the Navy, but now he has been assigned to a World War II liberty ship doing radar picket duty in the North Atlantic. To him, this is a dead end unless he can carry out his mission flawlessly. This stress causes paranoia, and he deals with his crew harshly. His large ego often overrides his common sense in his handling of officers and crewmembers.

When a young ensign comes aboard, he and his buddies, fresh from Navy "charm school," vow to drive G.O.D. out of his mind or at least make him think he is out of his mind. However, the crew is constantly in fear of his wrath. The ploy for revenge becomes a battle of wits as G.O.D. endures the daily shenanigans of the crew.

A hilarious story of Navy life, God Wore an Orange Cap is a classic story of young pranksters versus the old authority.

Boesenhofer, a native Philadelphian, joined the Navy at 17. He served as radioman and electronics warrant officer on a variety of ships and locations. After 20 years, he retired to civilian life, working in the electronics industry and eventually teaching in the Philadelphia school system. God Wore an Orange Cap is his first book.
