The Adventures of Bruce Mottlewaite -- New book features charming young psychic and his grandmother

BARNET, England, Dec. 4, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- After many years in a dull job, author Karen Ann Porter decided to explore her creative side. Suffering with painful osteoarthritis, she was inspired to write and struggled forward, even through a major surgery, to bring her characters to life. Porter's new book, Bruce Mottlewaite and Alice (now available through 1stBooks), was inspired by a friend's young son and is loosely based on a true story, though names have been changed.

The book focuses on Bruce Mottlewaite, 12, and his grandmother, Alice. Bruce enjoys spending time with animals and reading, and he assists the editor of a local newspaper several times a week. His life, however, is far from perfect. His mother is mostly absent and communicates with him most frequently through letters. He doesn't know his father.

Recently, Bruce has been changing, and these changes aren't kind typical expected in adolescent boys. Rather, he becomes far more sensitive to other people's thoughts and impressions. He begins to have strange dreams or visions, and he has no idea why any of this is happening.

A young boy in a quickly changing world, Bruce attempts to deal with these strange and powerful feelings. It's as if his intuition has been kicked into high gear, and he is determined to discover why. Could it be that Bruce is developing psychic abilities?

Follow this young man and his grandmother as they discover the powers Bruce holds within and the great adventure an ordinary boy with extraordinary gifts can have.

Porter was born in England, which served as the setting for Bruce Mottlewaite and Alice, her first book. Before becoming an author, she held various secretarial positions, worked in the health care profession and trained in the Russian School of Violin technique, playing in several amateur orchestras. She first became interested in psychic development and healing while training as a nurse. She now works for an international law firm, is an international clairvoyant medium and gives private readings in her spare time.
