STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Dec. 9, 2003 (PRIMEZONE) -- AstraZeneca, one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies have awarded Pointsec Mobile Technologies a global contract worth 1.2m Euros in license fees to secure their mobile devices with Pointsec(R). The global license will enable AstraZeneca to protect mobile devices with a comprehensive access control and encryption solution to ensure only authorised users gain access to data held on their PCs, laptops, PDAs and smartphones. Delivery is taking place during December 2003, at which time 1m Euro will be recognized as revenue.
AstraZeneca chose Pointsec(R) after extensive piloting and testing of the product as the "best of breed" solution for automatic, data encryption and enforceable mandatory access control for all multiple platforms and mobile devices. The encryption, which is transparent to the user, assures normal, uninhibited performance with no need for user intervention or user training. Furthermore, Pointsec(R) uniquely offers the convenience of centralised system management, which allows the IT department to remotely install, upgrade or provide password resets.
AstraZeneca spends over 11 million dollars every working day on research and development providing innovative, effective medicines designed to fight disease in important areas of medical need including cancer, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, infection, neuroscience and respiratory. Safeguarding their intellectual property is therefore of utmost importance especially with an every increasing mobile workforce.
Peter Larsson, President, Pointsec Mobile Technologies said "We are delighted to have AstaZeneca as a customer and to provide their employees with the highest level of security and flexibility, with the minimum of intervention. One of the key advantages of Pointsec(R) is that the solution can be used on any mobile device, regardless of hardware platform."
