Nokia will host its sixth Totally Board event in South Africa on December 16, 2003. This one-day event combines extreme sports, music and mobility in an extraordinary event at Bloubergstrand in Cape Town. The public has a chance to watch local and international skateboarders, BMXers, skiers, snowboarders and kiteboarders perform extreme sports in a unique surrounding.
"The Nokia Totally Board event takes this unique combination of sports and music to the African continent for the first time. By choosing to sponsor extreme sports such as snowboarding and BMXing, Nokia expresses shared values of individuality and creativity. Furthermore, Nokia is living up to its vision of connecting people and its efforts to further strengthen its presence in South Africa by offering benefits of mobility to consumers. Nokia is very proud to host this exciting event in one of the world's most beautiful cities", said Mats Wolontis, General Manager, Export Sales, Nokia Mobile Phones.
The Nokia Totally Board takes place at Bloubergstrand, a famous stretch of beach that overlooks Table Mountain and a phenomenal site to host the action-packed event. A huge 90m long ramp will be covered in 200 tons of snow for the snowboard and ski competitions. Altogether about 65 athletes, including skateboarders, BMXers, inline skaters and kiteboarders will be demonstrating their skills in the skatepark and at the waterfront. Kiteboarding, being a re-invention of surfing, is the latest in extreme sports and is one of the fastest growing sports in South Africa.
On a separate stage on the beachfront, top South African bands, such as Brasse Vannie Kaap, One80 and Tweak will be playing live and popular DJ's will entertain the crowd. During the event, the audience will be able to send text messages with their mobile phones and have their messages displayed on huge boards in the area. Nokia promoters will be wandering through the crowd with Nokia imaging phones, taking pictures and sending them to the giant MMS board at the event.
The Nokia 3100, Nokia 3200, Nokia 3300 phones and the N-Gage(TM) game deck will be on display at the event.
