STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Jan. 27, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Patients with a high level of physical activity that perform accelerated rehabilitation after having been operated with Artimplant's Artelon(TM) Augmentation Device ACL show as good results as with normal rehabilitation. For example, this means that athletes may return faster to normal activity.
Ten patients were included in a pilot study to find out whether they could go through accelerated rehabilitation after ACL operation Artelon(TM) Augmentation Device ACL. Seven of the ten patients were able to successfully perform the program. Physical training started one week after operation with free training after nine weeks. Normally, after operation with patellar tendon, the free training starts after three months.
Patients have been followed up during two years. The seven patients that completed the program show good results according to the Wallgren-Tegner score. No side-effects such as bone tunnel widening, re-rupture or instability were noticed.
