Siemens and ADVA Awarded Order for Deployment of Optical Networks in Major Cities by T-Com

MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany, March 29, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- T-Com, the fixed network division of Deutsche Telekom AG, has commissioned Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN) in a two-year, worldwide master contract to supply, install, and maintain optical transport equipment in metropolitan area networks. With this contract, both companies expand their longstanding collaboration in the fields of switching and DSL technology (digital subscriber line) to now also include optical transport technology.

With 55.5 million telephone lines, T-Com is Europe's largest fixed network provider. In Germany, T-Com serves private and business customers with just under 49 million narrowband connections, including ISDN, and four million broadband T-DSL connections. The metro optical transport solution from Siemens is based on ADVA Optical Networking's DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) technology and comprises the Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000 and the Siemens Telecommunications Network Management System (TNMS). It enables the roll-out of high-bandwidth, flexible, and scalable networks, which support all relevant interfaces and allow carriers to offer a variety of services (e.g. data services with Gigabit Ethernet or SAN services with ESCON and Fibre Channel). Built-in monitoring and standby switching functions make it possible to effectively control and comply with service level agreements. With the aid of TNMS, these services can be easily provisioned and the entire network operated with high reliability.

Siemens Information and Communication Networks (ICN) is a leading global provider of communication solutions for enterprises and carriers. Its portfolio ranges from real-time IP-based applications, IP convergence solutions and broadband access systems to optical transport networks. ICN also provides consulting and services. With its innovative LifeWorks concept, ICN is developing a uniform platform that transcends the boundaries of corporate, fixed and mobile network, enabling providers to offer new services and enterprises to boost productivity. ICN posted sales of 7.1 billion euros in fiscal 2003 (year-end September 30) and employed 33,000 people.
