Nokia Expands Family of Network Security Platforms with Introduction of High-End Nokia IP2250 and IP1220 Appliances


MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (May 24, 2004) - Nokia (NYSE:NOK) today announced the high-end expansion of its family of high performance network security platforms with the addition of Nokia IP2250 and Nokia IP1220. The new security platforms are designed to easily handle the increased high-volume traffic levels of larger sized enterprise, service provider and data center sites.  Nokia IP2250 and IP1220 provide improved return on investment by packing more power into a compact platform without sacrificing the security, network integrity and the high availability IT professionals require. The new offerings combine competitive pricing, performance and management capabilities to deliver the strongest and most reliable security platforms on the market today.
 
Nokia IP2250 and Nokia IP1220 are "Secured by Check Point" appliances and incorporate the Check Point SecureXL 2.1 API from Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (NASDAQ: CHKP).  They are tightly integrated with Nokia's newest IPSO(TM) 3.8 secure operating system (see separate press release) on Nokia's purpose-built hardware platform. Working together, the companies are helping to ensure Nokia IP2250 and IP1220 are meeting the stringent, global enterprise requirements of today and tomorrow.

Nokia IP2250 and IP1220 expand the high-end range of Nokia's industry-leading IP security platform portfolio. The Nokia family of IP security platforms now encompasses ten product offerings, extending from small home offices to the world's largest enterprises.

Nokia IP2250 and IP1220 are designed to be FIPS 140-2 and NEBS III compliant, with NEBS III DC in Q2 2004. Additionally, each platform offers redundant capabilities either in Nokia IPSO or in hardware with hot swap interfaces and available redundant hardware components for the highest reliability available.  Both can be managed with either the web-based Nokia Network Voyager or CLI interface for single device management or Nokia Horizon Manager for multi-device management. In addition, Nokia IPSO delivers added value with support for a wide array of protocols such as RADIUS client server, TACACS+ Client and others.
Nokia IP2250 and IP1220 will be available through Nokia's established global channel June 1, 2004. Consistent with the entire Nokia IP network security appliance portfolio, both appliances are backed by Nokia's world-class, SCP certified "First Call-Final Resolution" global service and support.
 
NOKIA IP2250
Nokia IP2250 is a new diskless Network Processor (NP) based platform with unique Accelerated Data Path (ADP) technology for the most demanding perimeter security locations. Nokia IP2250 performance can support high traffic sites anywhere in the world with its NP based hardware, ADP and Nokia IPSO(TM) secure operating system technology with capabilities for accelerating critical types of IP traffic with a "shortest path" approach.
 
Improved scalability, serviceability and performance in new DISKLESS system
The performance of the Nokia IP2250 was tested to the Standard RFC2544 and Nokia Mixed Traffic Tests for mixed traffic real world test results. It delivers:
 
  •          7.5 Gbps of large packet firewall throughput
  •          1.7 Gbps of small packet firewall throughput
  •          Up to 1 million simultaneous firewall connections 
  •          47,000 connections per second  
  •          1.8 Gbps of large packet VPN throughput  
  •          Support for up to 36 10/100 Ethernet Ports and 8 Gigabit Ethernet Ports in various combinations
  •          3 RU Chassis, dual power & Fans, 2 GB of RAM

    Delivering industry-leading solutions to meet stringent customer security, Nokia IP2250 leverages Check Point's SecureXL 2.1 API, which accelerates its firewall throughput to over 47,000 Connections Per Second (CPS) and significantly increases its VPN throughput. It has excellent expansion capacity with up to thirty-six 10/100 Ethernet ports for large and growing network infrastructures or a mix of 10/100 and up to eight 1000 Mbps Ethernet ports and an optional VPN acceleration card for high speed VPN.
     
    The IP2250 is priced at approximately $80,000 US.
     
    NOKIA IP1220
    Nokia IP1220 is a highly scaleable, large enterprise solution, ideal for companies on a budget requiring a robust firewall and VPN platform. Nokia IP1220 is a purpose-built, hardware platform that leverages Check SecureXL 2. 1 API with the newest version of Nokia IPSO(TM) secure operating system. From inception, Nokia IP1220 was designed to grow and continually meet increasing network traffic needs.

    Nokia IP1220 value is further enhanced with the available high-speed encryption accelerator card and up to 2GB of available RAM. With its expansion capacity, Nokia IP1220 can connect a multitude of network segments for a large and growing network infrastructure with up to twenty 10/100 Ethernet or eight 1000 Mbps Ethernet connections in a variety of customer selected configurations. 
     
    The IP1220 is priced at approximately $33,000 US.
     
    Nokia Multiple Domain Security 2.0
    Nokia is also pleased to announce Nokia Multiple Domain Security.  Built on Check Point VPN-1® VSX NG with Application Intelligence(TM), customers no longer need to invest in and deploy multiple solutions to achieve end-to-end security, dramatically cutting hardware and administration costs.  Users can run up to 250 firewall systems - each with separate policies, administration privileges, logging, etc. - on a single appliance. Nokia Multiple Domain Security provides high availability using industry standard VRRP and is supported worldwide by Nokia Global Support & Service. Nokia Multiple Domain Security will be available in July 2004.
