MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Sept. 13, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Astris Energi Inc. (OTCBB:ASRNF), the world's leading alkaline fuel cell (AFC) technology company, today announced that it will be participating in the City of Toronto's Better Transportation Expo on September 13 to 15, 2004.
The event will focus on low emissions transportation and alternative fuel vehicles. Astris will be displaying its alkaline fuel cell powered Freedom Golf Car. Powered by Astris' 1.0 kW E6 Power Generator, Freedom has a top cruising speed of 31 kph with better acceleration and hill climbing than with a conventional battery-powered model and, unlike gas powered versions, there is no noxious exhaust or engine noise. The car is fuelled by a 33-litre, refillable, carbon fibre hydrogen tank that will last up to 3 days under typical usage.
Better Transportation Expo will take place at the heart of Toronto's financial district, at First Canadian Place, Commerce Court, and the Toronto-Dominion Centre, all located at the intersection of King and Bay Streets. Vehicle demonstrations, exhibits, seminars, and events will take place in the courtyards and lobby areas of all three complexes. Astris' Freedom will be featured in the main lobby of First Canadian Place from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on each day of the exposition. The opening ceremony will be held at First Canadian Place on Monday, September 13 at 12:30 pm and will feature a keynote address by Canadian environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki.
