Northrop Grumman Reaches Milestone with Montreal Emergency Response System

HERNDON, Va., Oct. 11, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) completed the transition and upgrade of police dispatch center operations to a computer-aided dispatching (CAD) system designed to provide swift and easy access to a wide range of information critical to emergency response for the city of Montreal, Canada.

The milestone underscores the company's progress in public-safety solutions since the original CAD system was implemented in Montreal 15 years ago. Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector upgraded the system to include eight separate interfaces and a language conversion to French.

"We are committed to enhancing emergency response services to significantly improve response time," said John Kavanaugh, vice president, State and Local Solutions, Northrop Grumman IT. "Millions of citizens are supported by Northrop Grumman's public-safety systems and it is our priority to ensure they are protected and served at all times."

The new CAD system enables emergency call-takers and dispatchers to quickly and more easily transmit critical information. The CAD system sends incident information to police units working on the streets of Montreal.

Montreal is the second largest city in Canada. Its 5,000-member Montreal Police Department serves 1.8 million people. The police force responds to more than one million events each year, and averages 4,000 calls per day.

The City of Montreal also installed 450 laptops to network the command center and field units for easier data access and unit status. A customized mobile Web product featuring mobile mapping in French will also enhance the new system.
