NeoScale Systems and ADVA Optical Networking Successfully Complete Interoperability Testing

MUNICH, Germany, Oct. 26, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- ADVA and NeoScale provide enterprises with an advanced high-security, high-performance disaster recovery solutionMartinsried/Munich, Germany; Mahwah/New Jersey, USA; and Milpitas/California, USA. October 26, 2004. NeoScale Systems and ADVA Optical Networking today announced that the NeoScale CryptoStor SAN VPN appliance (see press release dated today - "NeoScale Announces First Storage VPN Appliance") has completed interoperability testing with ADVA's Fiber Service Platform (FSP) systems. The joint solution offers enterprise customers secure, high performance extension of Storage Area Networks (SANs) across high-availability Metropolitan Area Networks (MANs).

Enterprise interest in disaster recovery strategies has intensified significantly in the last three years. Optical networks enhanced with ADVA's Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM)-based systems have emerged as the standard medium for interconnecting primary and recovery data centers separated by between 20 and 200 kilometers. Optical networks provide the reliable, robust links, and WDM cost-effectively multiplies the amount and types of traffic that can be carried across a single fiber strand. Enterprises are furthermore looking at ways to ensure the security of the data being transported over these networks. NeoScale's in-flight data encryption is one of the first products to emerge as a last-line-of-defense security mechanism.

"Secure SAN extension is emerging as an important requirement for enterprise networks and carriers' managed storage service offerings today," noted Brian P. McCann, Chief Marketing & Strategy Officer at ADVA. "Metro optical networking solutions enable all applications - including native 1 and 2Gbit/s Fibre Channel - to operate at full bandwidth throughput for the same price as a T3/E3 SONET service, making storage-over-optical connectivity extremely flexible and cost-effective. With the completion of this interoperability testing between ADVA and NeoScale, we are now able to offer customers a solution that ensures the privacy of information as it is transmitted across the public MAN to enable secure remote storage applications."

Joint deployment of ADVA's FSP systems and NeoScale's CryptoStor SAN VPN appliances enable secure multi-site business continuity, disaster recovery, remote storage access, and similar storage applications in metro areas for medium and large enterprises. CryptoStor SAN VPN connects to the Fibre Channel port on the FSP system and seamlessly encrypts information before it is transmitted across the MAN. The CryptoStor appliance supports native 2Gbit/s throughput with strong AES-256 encryption and can optionally compress traffic to maximize the utilization of lower speed fiber services.

"We are excited to partner with ADVA, a leader in metro optical networking solutions, because together we can offer a unique solution for secure extension of real time storage applications across the MAN," said James Yu, VP of Business Development at NeoScale Systems. "Our joint offering enables enterprises and carriers to securely transmit business-critical information between locations without the latency and performance overhead found in existing security solutions."

The NeoScale CryptoStor appliance family provides enterprise-class security of information on networked or distributed storage. Contrary to other storage security technologies, NeoScale's appliances seamlessly and reliably integrate with the existing storage infrastructure with no host software or network reconfiguration required. The result is a more cost effective storage security solution that deploys easily and enables corporate regulatory compliance. NeoScale CryptoStor appliances deliver storage firewall protection, strong encryption (AES-256, 3DES), and granular auditing capabilities to minimize IT headaches and security concerns. Additionally, the CryptoStor platform offers best-practice high availability and performance scalability options, allowing storage security to be deployed on a wide scale without network downtime or storage performance worries.

ADVA's Fiber Service Platform is a portfolio of optical networking products designed specifically for the delivery of high-speed services and network infrastructure in the metropolitan area. Employing leading technologies like Coarse and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM/DWDM) and Time Division Multiplexing (TDM), the FSP systems enable up to 512 applications ranging from speeds of 8Mbit/s to 10Gbit/s to be transported over a single fiber pair up to 500 kilometers. The Fiber Service Platform (FSP) portfolio includes the FSP 150, FSP 1500, FSP 500, FSP 2000, FSP 3000, and FSP Management Suite.
