By opening the subscription period for Robeco Global Value Equities, Robeco is introducing style investing. This new fund invests worldwide in securities known as value stocks. The fund manager invests in stocks which are undervalued and which he expects to generate capital gains. The other style of investing is investing in growth stocks.
Robeco, Rolinco and Robeco Global Value Equities
The Robeco Group has a tradition of growth investing. The fund Rolinco is a pure growth fund, and the fund Robeco traditionally also emphasizes growth stocks. This distinction between growth and value is also reflected in the selected benchmarks, the MSCI World Index for Rolinco, the Citigroup World Growth Primary Market Index for Robeco, and the MSCI World Value Index for Robeco Global Value Equities.
Difference for investors
Value funds have a lower risk profile than growth funds. Since growth investments concern investment in companies which are expected to show considerable growth, their share prices are more sensitive to economic news. In times of high economic growth, the growth style can be expected to generate higher returns than the value style. This is not the case when the economy slows.
Expertise from the US
Several years ago Robeco acquired the US company Boston Partners Asset Management (BPAM), a specialist in value-style investing. Boston Partners has excellent track records in this area. Patrick Wollenberg of Robeco Rotterdam will manage Robeco Global Value Equities, supported by various local experts.
