EducationForAdults.com Uses Blogging Technology to Inform Busy Adults About Educational Opportunities

CHESTER, Pa., April 20, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- EducationforAdults.com, an online directory of nontraditional education programs for busy adults, has created a blog in the hopes of making adults' transitions back into the classroom easier.

The aim of the blog is to form a community where adults contemplating going back to school can interact with people in similar situations and hear stories about other adults who are returning or have returned to school.

"One of the major reasons adults never go back to school is because they don't want to be the only ones," says Tara Longo, manager of EducationforAdults.com. "They don't realize there are thousands of people in the identical situation they are. When they meet these people and hear their stories, it makes them feel better about themselves. It makes them realize they can do this. It gives them hope. That is the aim of our blog."

Longo believes that because EducationforAdults.com works with so many schools and higher education organizations, it has the flexibility and knowledge to provide adult students with a multidimensional view of adult education. Web logging technology allows Longo and her staff to receive input from current adult students as well as direct questions from potential students looking for honest answers on what it is like to return to school. If Longo can't answer the questions, a former adult student can.

In addition to content from Longo and her staff, Mike Doolin will post entries and answer questions. Doolin is the author of "A Guerilla Manual for the Adult College Student," a book about "how to go to college (almost) full time in your spare time and still have time to hold down a job, raise a family, pay the bills and have some fun." He was an adult college student and currently teaches writing and advises other adult college students at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY.

"Mike's involvement with the blog brings some much needed clout to the project," Longo says. "He is well-respected in the adult education field , and his input is invaluable to the potential adult student."

Longo went on to say, "If our EducationforAdults.com blog helps just one person realize he or she can successfully get a college degree as an adult, then I will feel like we have succeeded."

The URL for the blog is http://blog.educationforadults.com, or it can be accessed from the EducationforAdults.com homepage. Anyone can read or respond to the entries.
