FCIA Recent Developments
The FCIA's technology road maps define and support innovative technologies developed by its member companies to further the industry as a whole. Recent developments by FCIA include defining 8Gb/s Fibre Channel (8GFC) for an intra-cabinet storage device interconnect and for switched SAN fabrics, making the use of 8GFC speed possible for both drive and network interfaces while maintaining compatibility with current 2 and 4 GFC technologies. The FCIA, as the marketing arm of the ANSI T11 standards organization, is also working with the T11 to help define new standards for natively attaching SATA hard drives to Fibre Channel infrastructures. This new effort is called FC-SATA. Additionally, the FCIA is exploring the market case and use of low cost cabling in the Fibre Channel infrastructure. All these initiatives help Fibre Channel bring its enterprise-class capabilities to businesses of all sizes.
