LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Milton Sledge, a 74-year-old widower has lived in his home for 40 years, and has not had a working furnace for more than 12 years. A Gas Company crew will travel to South Los Angeles Wednesday armed with hammers and nails and other building materials to perform an energy-efficient home makeover, which includes a replacement furnace.
With projections that natural gas bills will be more than 30 percent higher this winter, as compared with last year, The Gas Company is helping customers cope with record-high natural gas costs that are being felt nationwide.
The Gas Company is alerting customers about a no-cost program available to eligible, income-qualified customers that provides energy-saving home improvements and repair or replacement of non-working, or hazardous natural gas furnaces to help customers reduce energy consumption and save money. These services are offered through The Gas Company's Direct Assistance Program.
