Fujitsu and ADVA Optical Networking Extend OEM Relationship and Add Ethernet Access Devices to Fujitsu Portfolio

ADVA Fiber Service Platform 'FSP' 150 Series to be branded as the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 5150 Ethernet Access Platform

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 24, 2005 (PRIMEZONE) -- Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. and ADVA Optical Networking Inc. announced today that they have extended their OEM relationship with the addition of ADVA's Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 150 to the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE(R) portfolio, where it will be branded as the FLASHWAVE 5150 Ethernet access platform. The low-cost family of devices supports the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standard to increase the manageability of Ethernet, while lowering the cost of access to Ethernet and IP networks. The FLASHWAVE 5150 EFM platform will be unveiled this week in the Fujitsu booth (No. 335) at the TELECOM '05 conference and exhibition in Las Vegas.

"Our two companies have enjoyed a successful three year alliance, and we are now deepening this relationship with the addition of this exciting new, packet-based product portfolio," said Bill Erickson, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. "Many of our customers are placing more emphasis on packet services and the new FLASHWAVE 5150 platform provides an extremely powerful access networking approach that service providers can leverage to drive those services economically to more users. Fujitsu is a trusted and substantial supplier to ILECs, independent carriers and MSOs in North America with our world-class supply and support chain. We believe the FLASHWAVE 5150 Ethernet access platform will be a popular new addition to what is already the most comprehensive portfolio of Carrier Ethernet, multiservice SONET and WDM products in the industry, while maintaining familiar management and operating procedures."

"The Ethernet services market is one of the hottest areas of growth in the wireline sector today," said Stan Hubbard, senior analyst at Heavy Reading. "To capitalize on booming demand, telecom operators are looking to extend high performance Ethernet services to more locations. They increasingly are turning to EFM solutions like the FLASHWAVE 5150 platform to help them tap into new revenue opportunities and scale their next-generation networks in a cost-effective manner."

The carrier-class FLASHWAVE 5150 platform, powered by ADVA, includes cost-optimized access products designed for mass-market delivery of Ethernet-based services. The product family consists of a customer premises demarcation unit and a set of 10/100Base-T, 10/100Base-X and Gigabit Ethernet aggregation devices which offer flexible options to simplify service delivery and reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). The FLASHWAVE 5150 platform is interoperable with SONET/SDH products and Layer 2/Layer 3 infrastructures to help carriers evolve today's networks to support next-generation services.

"With the introduction of the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 5150 Ethernet access platform and its low cost of ownership, mass market deployment of Ethernet as a transport solution for access networks becomes a reality," said Brian P. McCann, chief marketing and strategy officer at ADVA Optical Networking. "The platform can be used to create diverse services such as E-Line, E-LAN or Virtual Private Networks from a basic set of building blocks. Our extensive and unique Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM) features provide the carrier-class service and reliability for customer applications, even when transported on a shared infrastructure."

The ability to support over-subscription through rate control and the combination of multiple 10 Mbit/s, 100 Mbit/s and subrate Gigabit Ethernet circuits from up to six customers is one of the key benefits of the FLASHWAVE 5150 Ethernet access platform.

The FLASHWAVE 5150 units are based on the IEEE 802.3ah EFM standard and support the lightweight OAM protocol as defined within the standard. This protocol has been extended to offer additional management capabilities to enable large scale deployment in carrier networks. Advanced Performance Monitoring (PM) capabilities allow operators to efficiently monitor and maintain customer Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Remote bandwidth management and over-subscription of aggregate ports is supported, allowing flexible network deployment with simple service upgrades.
