Stafford County Awards Northrop Grumman Public Safety Building Contract


MCLEAN, Va., Jan. 11, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The County of Stafford, Va., has awarded Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) a contract to design and build a new public safety center and install several upgraded systems that will consolidate its public safety operations allowing for improved collaboration in emergency management situations.

The Stafford County public safety center program is valued at approximately $36.4 million over 25 months to Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector.

As part of the contract, Northrop Grumman will oversee the design and construction of an approximately 114,000-square-foot public safety center for police, fire and rescue, and emergency operations. The new facility will contain a 9-1-1 communication center, an emergency management center and support all of the sheriff's administrative functions including detention and booking. In addition, the facility will contain administrative offices for fire and rescue, and sheriff personnel and other related line functions.

Northrop Grumman will also integrate new public safety systems designed for improved management of emergency operations and relocate legacy systems to the new center. In addition, the company will add new technologies to better help protect the public. These new technologies include installation of a voice over Internet protocol administrative telephone system, a subsystem timing infrastructure using global positioning system technology and a 9-1-1 telephone system. Northrop Grumman will serve as the systems integrator to oversee the installation of the new voice radio system.
