MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany and MAHWAH, N.J., March 9, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- ADVA Optical Networking today announced the new release of its flagship optical platform, the Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000. Combining new features into this powerful Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) platform and offering unprecedented application scope, the FSP 3000 Release 7 allows a best-in-class value proposition across a broad range of networks. The platform delivers three families of transponders and muxponders -- access, core and enterprise -- which enhance the ability of carriers and enterprises alike to evolve their networks, deliver new services and implement systems that are easy to use.
The FSP 3000 highlights many new features that combine into two key benefit areas:
1. Lowest cost per bit:
-- Raman amplification -- New amplifier modules offer a single-span reach of up to 200 km to extend network distances beyond 1000 km without regeneration. -- 80 wavelengths -- Increasing from 32 or 64 wavelengths in prior releases, the 80 wavelength capability allows for up to 640 high-bit rate applications to be transported over a single fiber pair. -- Pluggable SFPs -- The universal Small Formfactor Pluggable (SFP) port design, previously released in ADVA's FSP 2000 platform, provides expanded flexibility, reduced logistics and sparing costs for local interfaces and CWDM or DWDM remote interfaces. -- 4Gbit/s Fibre Channel and 4Gbit/s-Ethernet muxponder -- New to the FSP 3000 platform but already enjoying global success through ADVA's FSP 2000, support for the 4Gbit/s network interface leverages the cost-per-bit benefits of 4Gbit/s TDM aggregation compared to muxponders with 10Gbit/s or 2.5Gbit/s line interfaces. -- Slimline shelf -- With single-rack-unit height, ADVA's product offers the industry's smallest form factor. There are no limitations in scalability compared to bigger shelves. -- Single wavelength add/drop -- This feature enhances scalability on a more granular basis than a banded or full-band WDM add/drop node.
2. Highest service provisioning:
-- 40Gbit/s linespeed -- New transponders/muxponders offer unprecedented scalability for the fastest commercially available speeds, effectively future-proofing the network for the next major step in higher bitrates. -- Modular hybrid ROADM -- The modular Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) creates an incremental approach to offering dynamic network configurations without the high-cost and complication of full ROADM architectures. -- GMPLS control plane -- Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) control plane delivers increased provisioning and management intelligence. This feature enables a staged approach, first attempting Open Shortest Path First (OSPF)-routing and then constraint-based routing for network traffic when necessary. -- Tunable DWDM lasers -- Ease of use, cost savings on sparing and network planning simplification help streamline Dense WDM (DWDM) network deployments. -- G.709 OTH (Optical Transport Heirarchy) -- The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standard enables seamless transmission of the highest data rates with clearly defined multiplexing levels, offering enhancements over the capabilities of SONET/SDH, including Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM).
"Metro DWDM systems offering greater scalability, more flexible bandwidth and better OPEX economies are in increasing demand," said Dave Dunphy, Research Director of Network Infrastructure at Ovum-RHK. "ADVA has targeted those needs by spanning metro access, core and regional applications with the FSP 3000, bolstered with upgrades offering service providers a migration path to greater wavelength scalability, faster line speeds and SAN extension interfaces, efficient data multiplexing, more flexible add/drop granularity and remote provisioning in a standards-based, interoperable system."
"The new FSP 3000 release represents a significant step in next-generation WDM transport while integrating multiple advanced features into a single world-class platform," emphasized Brian P. McCann, ADVA's chief marketing and strategy officer. "This platform takes our Optical+Ethernet innovation strategy to a higher level and provides the most versatile optical provisioning platform in the industry."
The new release will be sold directly by ADVA and through all the company's sales partners, including Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. (FNC) and Siemens Communications.
