INDIANAPOLIS, April 27, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- ATA Airlines launched nonstop service today from Hilo to the Bay Area's convenient, Oakland International Airport. ATA is the only airline to offer nonstop service between Hilo and the mainland. Connecting service to many other mainland cities like Los Angeles, Ontario, CA, Phoenix, San Diego, Seattle and more via Oakland is provided by ATA's codeshare partner Southwest Airlines.

Executive Director of the Big Island Visitors Bureau George Applegate explained the launch of a nonstop service from Northern California to East Hawaii is significant news for those who live and work on the Big Island. "ATA's new service offers a cost-effective, convenient opportunity for our residents with families on the mainland to stay more connected. It provides mainland visitors a more convenient flight directly into Hilo and will encourage visitors to experience East Hawaii for longer periods of time," said Applegate.
