From Shepard's Pie to the Irish Jig: The 2006 Irish Festival at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA, June 8, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- As one of the many PECO Multicultural Series' events, the Irish Festival is one of the most vibrant. Irish culture is celebrated on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. The festival of music, dancing, food, and entertainment will be held Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25 from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The 8th annual Irish Festival is a family event that features well-known Irish musical performers. The gates will open at 12 Noon on Saturday and Sunday and admission is free. Guests can enjoy the music of the Bogside Rogues, Peter McDonald, Paddy's Well, Oliver McIlhane, and Jameson during the festival. American Idols (the McCabes) will headline Saturday night, while Sean Fleming is scheduled to headline and close the festival on Sunday night.

In addition to great musical performances, the Irish Festival has something for people of all ages. There will be bagpipers, face painting, and Irish dancing along with other entertainment for the kids. Local dance schools will conduct dance exhibitions and there will also be an Irish dance contest. The kitchen from Finnigan's Wake will be serving Irish favorites such as Shepard's Pie, Bangors and mashed potatoes, and pulled pork. Over twenty different vendors will be selling authentic and traditional Irish goods and crafts.

Admission is free for all PECO Multicultural Series events. PECO presents a series of free Multicultural festivals throughout the summer season at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing.
