In its newest acquisition, which Quantech expects to complete in the near future, the company will add the final development touches on two cutting edge biofeedback systems which it will incorporate in its marketing communications solutions as well as a new line of health-related products. By connecting emotion in speech to biofeedback, the arousal-based biofeedback systems will enable individuals to use speech as an intervening variable to control their emotional and physiological states while they are talking on the telephone. The systems also uses additional other physiological variables to control subjects' arousal state (e.g., stress, fear, anger, or depression).
The biggest self-help use of biofeedback generally has to do with helping people learn how to relax themselves efficiently. Quantech's new systems will additionally allow people to take control of their moods, emotions and the way they react to people and situations in real time. However, the new systems recognize emotion by analyzing speech patterns and therefore will provide immediate feedback on the person's emotional state. As a result, the systems can help people learn to control stress, or symptoms of tension, anxiety, fear, slight depression or despondency, in preparation for meetings, exams, presentations and help with concentration. The potential number of users is enormous; for the subgroup of only mild stress or tension sufferers alone accounts for 10 to 15% of the adult population.
