Connecticut Flower & Garden Show Will 'Grow' and Expand With Move to Connecticut Convention Center

For First Time, Show Partners With Northeast Floral Trade Expo

HARTFORD, Conn., Nov. 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- One of the most prestigious flower and garden shows in New England is moving to a larger location. The "26th annual Connecticut Flower & Garden Show" will be held Thursday, February 22 through Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the Connecticut Convention Center on 100 Columbus Ave. in Hartford, Conn. -- one mile South of its former site.

"The upcoming event in the new Connecticut Convention Center will be almost 50 percent larger than in 2006, occupying three acres of exhibition space," explains Kristie Gonsalves Harrington, President of North East Expos, Inc. "We can double the number of seminars and demonstrations, showcase more magnificent gardens, and accommodate many more vendors with products for flower and garden enthusiasts."

A record 22 different gardens, created by professional landscape designers and non-profit organizations, will be displayed, including water gardens, oriental gardens, and a rose garden created by Friends of Elizabeth Park in Hartford.

For the first time, the Connecticut Flower & Garden Show will partner with the Northeast Floral Trade Expo. Most of that Trade Expo is closed to the public, but Flower & Garden Show ticket-holders may attend. It will feature a competition of top floral designers, bookstore, mini-exhibits of retail flower shops, and two "high teas," each with its own floral design show from respected national designers.

As in past years, the Flower & Garden Show will feature the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut's design and horticulture competition, which also will expand in size.

Seminars by experienced horticulturists and experts on landscape design, construction and installation are free with admission. Celebrity presenters include HGTV's Roger Swain (Thursday), Connecticut author Nancy DuBrule-Clemente, Carol Miller of Top Most Earth Farm in Coventry, dragonfly expert Christine Cook, and Kasha Furman from Cricket Hill Garden in Thomaston.

There will be more than 200 displays and activities, and aisles filled with fresh flowers, plants, garden ornaments, herbs, bulbs, seeds, fertilizers, soils, gardening books, patio furniture, ornaments and lawn equipment, most of which is available for purchase. People can bring 1/2 cup of soil to the UConn Co-op booth for free soil testing.
