HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., Nov. 21, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The annual Main Street Holiday Celebration, now enjoying its tenth anniversary, comes to downtown Huntington Beach on Sunday, December 3, 2006 from 2-7 p.m.
Beginning at 3 p.m., local restaurants will open their doors for "A Taste of Main Street," featuring specialty soups, chowders and deserts, as well as a raffle for prizes. The popular children's parade begins at 4:30 p.m. at Orange Street and heads toward the pier. The parade stars Surf City Santa Claus and his wife, Mrs. Claus; Dave Sullivan, the Mayor of Huntington Beach; Miss Huntington Beach and her court; cars from the Southern California Woodie Club; local Brownie, Cub Scout and Camp Fire Troops; Polynesian dancers; and a group of Bernese Mountain dogs specially tricked out for the holidays.
"Light a Light of Love," the pier lighting ceremony, is kicked off at 4:45 p.m. by the popular local band the Slaw Dawgs, who will perform live at Pier Plaza, followed by the professional children's performing arts company, the Orange County Song and Dance Company. At 6 p.m., the pier, decorated with illuminated snowflakes, will light up to the delight of the 3,000 visitors expected to attend. The snowflakes are sponsored by local merchants and other businesses, with all proceeds benefiting the CSP Huntington Beach Youth Shelter.
