American Military University Names New Dean of Libraries and Educational Materials


CHARLES TOWN, W.Va., Jan. 24, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- American Military University (AMU) has named Dr. Frederick Stielow as its dean of libraries and educational materials. Stielow is leading a team of experienced research librarians and course materials specialists. They will work with faculty to unlock the full range of Web resources for the university's electronic classrooms.

"Dr. Stielow has the expertise and vision to take our online information systems in dynamic new directions to enhance the online student's learning experience," says Wallace E. Boston Jr., president and chief executive officer of American Public University System. AMU is part of the University System.

The new dean had been recruited to complete construction on AMU's virtual research library, which serves students in over 130 countries. Stielow earned a dual doctorate in history and American studies at Indiana University and a master's degree in library science at the University of Rhode Island. Previously, he served as a professor at Catholic University and the University of Maryland, as well as executive director for the Walter Reuther Labor Library and Tulane University's Amistad Research Center.

A former Fulbright scholar in Italy, Stielow has authored ten books -- including "Building Digital Archives... " and "Creating Virtual Libraries."
