WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- March 5, 2007 -- Target and the American Architectural
Foundation will launch their national design contest that asks high school
students to generate ideas about the schools and classrooms of the future
at a gathering of school architects in West Palm Beach, Florida, on
Wednesday, March 7. The contest is titled: "Redesign Your School -- A
Contest of Scholarly Proportions." Students in 9th through 12th grade are
asked to submit original designs for their ideal places to learn in the
21st century. Scholarships up to $10,000 and other prizes will be presented
to winners, eight of whom will also be invited to Washington, D.C., to
present their ideas.
The announcement will take place at 8:30 a.m. at School Building Expo, the
nation's largest gathering of school design architects and vendors who
supply products for school buildings. School Building Expo is produced in
cooperation with The American Institute of Architects, the nation's leading
architecture association.
Ronald E. Bogle, President and CEO of the American Architectural
Foundation, will also hold a press conference on the exhibit floor at the
Palm Beach County Convention Center, West Palm Beach, Florida, at 11:00 am
on Wednesday, March 7.
The winners of the AIA CAE Educational Facility Design Awards, some of the
best new school designs, will also be unveiled at the event. Nearly 400
architects, facilities planners, and other professionals are expected to
attend.
The Building Expo will kick off with a speech on Wednesday, March 7 at 8:00
a.m. by Michael Hall, Director, Fanning/Howey, Inc. who will present the
inspiring story of what a difference the vision of a man, and the
facilities of a better school, can make in the lives of literally millions
of Americans. On Thursday, March 8 at 10:30 a.m., Dr. Catherine Burke, a
researcher and lecturer at the University of Leeds, UK, will offer a
keynote address on "The School I'd Like: How Children View School
Buildings."
Georgia Pacific, Ingersoll-Rand, General Electric, LenNox, and York
International are among 175 exhibitors offering new products and services.
The expo floor will feature a Recyclatorium, a unique collection of samples
of sustainable materials which can be incorporated into school facilities.
