Teeing Off to 'Drive Out ALS'

SANTA ANA, Calif., April 9, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- "A few hours on the golf course is usually about having fun with friends," says Randy Kokal, Executive Director of the ALS Association-Orange County Chapter. "But this golf tournament means more; it's about improving care for people suffering from the debilitating disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig's disease."

The chapter is seeking participants for the group's fourth annual Drive Out ALS golf tournament, Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo.

"We're looking for foursomes, individual golfers, sponsors and donations of auction items," Kokal said. "Anyone interested in golf and helping out this important cause is welcome."

Colliers International is signed on as a Silver Birdie sponsor, and Bronze Par sponsors include the Angels Baseball Foundation, Michal Mekjin, Foundation Pile, Inland Empire Brokers Charity Alliance, Justice & Associates, Jilio & Associates Certified Court Reporters, SitOnIt Seating and the Mitsubishi Cement Corp.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a progressive condition that slowly paralyzes patients, generally resulting in death two to five years after diagnosis.

"The funds raised in this tournament will be used to provide vital support to ALS patients, their caregivers and their families, as well as research," according to Kokal.

There will be hole-in-one, putting, closest to pin and longest drive awards, as well as a dinner and fund-raising auction.

Sponsorships are available at several levels, with top levels including four player spots, special recognition on the course, in the program and at related events.

To participate or request information, contact the ALSA-OCC office at 714/ 285-1088 or rkokal@alsaoc.org.
