Acterra's 2007 Business Environmental Awards Honor "Green" Business Practices Around the Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - June 5, 2007) - Ewire -- Acterra today announced the winners of the prestigious 2007 Business Environmental Awards, identifying eleven companies and organizations who have demonstrated extraordinary environmental leadership from among this year's highly competitive field of Bay Area enterprises.

The winners, comprised of well-known firms and start-ups, hail from a variety of industry sectors, including high tech, biotech, clean tech, foodservice/hospitality, construction, and legal, reflecting the Bay Area's rich and widespread commitment to the environment.

Stanford Dining, a major foodservice provider to the Stanford University community, operates a dining enterprise that minimizes its environmental impacts through respecting and collaborating with its many stakeholders, including employees, students, customers, farmers, vendors, waste management firms and utilities. Sustainable practices include purchasing food from within 250 miles of campus, a comprehensive recycling and composting program, reusable serviceware, use of non-toxic cleaners, electric-powered vehicles, energy and water efficient appliances and sustainable building materials.

Genentech, Inc.
    San Mateo County
    Commute & Transportation Award

Genentech, Inc., a biotechnology company in South San Francisco, won the commute and transportation award for the broad array of commute alternative programs and incentives for employees. Genentech's transportation program pays employees $4.00 for each day they arrive by an alternative commute mode and log their transportation method on a web-based reporting system. Wi-fi equipped "GenenBuses" provide transportation to San Francisco and along the Interstate 80 corridor.
