CALABASAS, CA--(Marketwire - September 27, 2007) - Emergent Game Technologies announced today
the formation of Emergent Japan KK, a Tokyo-based company dedicated to
serving the Japanese video game market, which makes up 20 percent of the
$30 billion global video game industry. Emergent now has on-the-ground,
local-language operations throughout North America, Europe and Asia.
Emergent Japan KK will be managed by Japanese video game developer Acquire,
known for creating the Tenchu stealth fighting series. Under a strategic
reseller partnership with Emergent, Acquire will market, sell and support
the award-winning Gamebryo engine throughout Japan. Acquire is currently
using Emergent's Gamebryo engine for titles in development.
"Emergent Japan KK is singularly focused on being a creative catalyst for
Japanese game developers," said Geoffrey Selzer, CEO of Emergent. "We
teamed up with Acquire to ensure that we can provide not only our highly
optimized middleware solutions, but also personalized, language-appropriate
support. We look forward to helping our Japanese customers extract the
most power and performance out of next generation hardware and break new
ground in their creative endeavors."
The formation of Emergent Japan KK comes just two weeks after the company
introduced a highly customized version of its award-winning Gamebryo engine
for the Wii™ platform, currently the best-selling video game console in
Japan. Gamebryo also supports game development in the multi-core processor
environments inherent in PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360™ and PCs.
"Emergent Japan KK will be the developer's advocate for everything from
casual online games to break-through titles for next-generation consoles,"
said Richie Casper, Creative Director of Team Gaijin at Acquire. "Acquire
has first-hand experience as a developer in the Japanese market. We chose
to work with Emergent because we believe in the quality, flexibility and
scalability of the company's technology -- in fact, we use it every day."
Gamebryo is available for sale immediately through Emergent Japan KK.
Emergent's U.S. executive management team will oversee the operations,
while Acquire manages on-the-ground business functions, including sales,
marketing, technical support and customer service.
Emergent Japan KK is located at Poseidon Terrace 901, 1-19-4 Motoasakusa,
Taito-ku, Tokyo 111-0041, Japan. For local sales, contact 03-5806-1737 or
sales@emergent.jp. Additionally, representatives from Emergent's U.S.
headquarters will be in Tokyo for the CEDEC game developers conference
September 26-28 at Tokyo University. Emergent's Vice President of
Marketing and Business Development, John Goodale, was invited to give a
presentation in Japanese titled "To Build or Buy: The Case for Middleware"
at 2:50pm on Friday, September 28 at the conference.
