Cart'Com campaigns for the Earth with free cards

The French free card company Cart'Com is celebrating its 20th anniversary in connection with the annual IFA Awards event of International Freecard Alliance in October 2007. However, the company wanted to invite everybody to join the celebration - and the movement to save the Earth. Stora Enso is one of the sponsors of the campaign, which was launched in cooperation with the popular Foundation Nicolas Hulot for Nature and Mankind.

Cart'Com created and established the free card media in France two decades ago. Younger generations have grown up with the cards, and nowadays, the cards provide a powerful media to reach different target groups between the ages of 15 and 49. It is the decisions and acts of these people that can influence the future environmental state of the world. This is the background of the fruitful cooperation of Cart'Com and the Nicolas Hulot Foundation. This active citizenship approach perfectly meets the political framework of the French government which has raised environmental issues on the agenda.

Established eco brand

All Cart'Com cards are made from Stora Enso's Triplex Blanco recycled board. Last year, the company distributed over 70 million cards via its countrywide network. "The sustainability aspects of this business are very important for our customers. By using recycled board, we have been able to establish Cart'Com Eco brand in the market," says the company's director Philippe Casen.

In the graphics and packaging businesses, companies can implement different strategies to put sustainability into action. Wood is a renewable raw material, and in many cases, the application requires the use of primary fibre. The fundamental basis of Stora Enso's wood procurement is sustainable forestry. Recycling turns used paper and board once again into valuable new products.

Draw your own tree!

In conjunction with partners, Cart'Com launched the "Défi pour la Terre" (Challenge for the Earth) campaign to save the Earth with 400,000 cards distributed via 6,000 outlets throughout France. They were also distributed among Techno Parade ravers, who filled the Paris streets in September.

The card asked participants to draw their own tree for the Earth - and specify which daily environmental sacrifices the individual is prepared to make. The best drawing illustrating the sustainability theme will be rewarded with a prize: an eco-tourist weekend trip. "When you are twenty, you want to change the world. Our campaign involves people working to protect nature and invites everybody to join us as we celebrate twenty years of free cards," concludes Mr. Casen.

The campaign is also raising funds to support the work of the Nicolas Hulot Foundation. Several celebrities from French arts, sports and politics have contributed to the campaign by drawing their own trees. Limited editions of these printed cards are on sale on the Internet, and the revenue generated will go to the foundation. If you are a real enthusiast, you can also buy the original artwork on
eBay's online auction!
